We offer various educational programming that we’ve developed for kids of all ages; from Little Learners and Parent-Kid Adventures in STEM (both for ages 3-5) to Girl Scout Badge Workshops (for Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors) and our Discovery Summer Camps (for ages 6-13 and grades 1-8); it’s easy to see that education is at the core of our mission. Our new Education Manager, Jessica, is a perfect complement to our staff, and we’re so excited to have her here.

Jessica, new Education Manager at Whitaker Center

After Jessica obtained her undergrad in secondary math education from IUP and her master’s in science education from LVC, she spent almost 8 years as a middle school math teacher in a local public school. Jessica, a Pittsburgh native, is so excited about her new role at Whitaker Center.

“I have seen the amazing benefits to using hands-on, informal, education-based learning to supplement and enrich classroom requirements. Our interactive programming is exciting for kids, and it truly drives home the STEM principles that we’re teaching them.”

Jessica is working on a lot of exciting projects at Whitaker Center: revamped curriculum for Little Learners and Parent-Kid Adventures, new and improved Discovery Summer Camps, and the upcoming National Engineer’s Week (including Introduce a Girl to STEM Night).

In addition to her STEM-focused career, Jessica also has a performing arts background, making her even more of a perfect fit for Whitaker Center. “I danced my whole life – tap, ballet, jazz, pointe and even modern in college.” When Jessica isn’t here helping enrich the lives of youth in Central PA, she can be found enjoying Pittsburgh sports, trips to North Carolina, and spending quality time with her husband and two young daughters.

Help us in welcoming Jessica to Whitaker Center – and if you see her around (we’re sure you will!) feel free to say “hello” and find out what exciting task she’s up to that very moment!
